Getting Started

Greetings "filmmakers" and project volunteers. Your, not so humble, "Local Producer" is excited about what will be an auspicious addition to the "Tampa Bay Area" movie production scene.

(Anybody shooting on film? I like the term MOVIE, we go to the MOVIES we watch MOVIES, they don't need to be shot on FILM, it won't be too long before film is an archaic and obsolete medium)

We have the opportunity to generate a high level of interest in our area in a very exciting competition for Movie Makers.

I'm getting an early start because I have always found that time is your most precious commodity. The 48HFP website http://www.48hourfilm.com/ is in the process of being updated and new information will be on line toward the end of the first week in February.

Those of you in the Tampa Bay Area (and the West coast of Florida, from Naples to Pensacola, let's include Gainsville and Tallahasse) should go to www.48hourfilm.com/tampa for update and registration info.

The 48 Hour Film Project has a six year history of producing outstanding projects and offering generous prizes to the winning finalists. I wish you all the best of luck in breaking your legs and making it to the finals in Washington D.C.

THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO PARTICIPATED IN THE TAMPA 2007 48 HOUR FILM PROJECT.

Everyone I've talked to said it was a fantastic experience.

We are now planning to try for a second screening in St. Petersburg. It will be a good chance to congratulate the winners and hand out some awards.

If you are interested. PLEASE leave a comment and a commitment here. To male this thing happen we need enough support to get a theater. WE will also use the proceeds to get some neat awards and party favors for the attendees.

We made "Some Things Change...", the film de femme movie where a woman wakes up in an emergency room and remembers clubbing her fiance in the head.
The contest was an incredible experience. I could commit myself and at least 3 others to a second screening in St. Pete.

From "The Road Comic" team leader. I won't be able to attend a second screening but my crew may.

Weekend in review:

* A late Friday night brainstorm session lasting until 3:00am Saturday.
* Waking up to the first Tropical Storm in of the season. TS Barry.
* Slight depression amongst the team on how to film a Road movie in the rain.
* Purchasing $40 worth of rain gear at Walmart only to walk outside and see blue skies moving in.
* The first setup in Clearwater brings the Clearwater Police with sirens blaring.
* Being kicked out of Clearwater the police.
* The Comedy Club manager having a change of heart to allow us to film inside the club that night. (in his defense, the club was flooded from the Tropical Storm, see above)
* Getting to bed by 11:30 Saturday night with the thought of and all day editing session.
* Editing on my laptop which was still set on Central Standard time thinking I had plenty of time.
* Realizing that I was almost through and still needed about 1 and a half minutes to reach the minimum 4 minute mark.
* 6:00 Sunday night. Ready to export the final film to tape and leave when we receive a call from Chris's girlfriend, a festival volunteer and a team member, stating that "Pete Van Gib" was supposed to be a groom.
* 6:15- After making a voice over and ready to export the film to tape, the camera would not accept the tape.
* 6:20-After five minutes, we realize the label on the tape kept the gate from opening.
* Ready to export film to tape. Camera won't accept the signal. Change cameras' and reboot the editing software.
* 6:45 Make two copies of film and depart post haste. Paul Driving a rental PT Cruiser across the Courtney Campbell Causeway like a Taxi late to the airport or with the flow of traffic
* From Sunset and Belcher to Downtown Ybor we make it with 15 minutes to spare. Thankfully no traffic problems
* I was ready for a Rum and Coke
